A Few Words About Me
To study non-metallic inorganic material science at the TU Clausthal sounds not like the classical start point for a carreer in the ophthalmic business. But I am working since more than 20 years in it as an engineer committed to technical questions in surfacing processes.

After my PhD-thesis in 1995, about high temperature diffusion to create optical gradients in silicate materials, I started working for Rodenstock Optische Werke GmbH in Regen/Bavarian Forest continuing my work on optical gradients. On the side I worked in different smaller projects about fusion problems for silicate bifocals, corrosion of silicate semi finished lenses and breakage analysis of silicate casting moulds.

In 1998 I got the chance to investigate the scientific basics of grinding and polishing of freeform surfaces on polymer materials for the Rodenstock surfacing technology for one year . After that year I took responsibility for the development of a new simple freeform polisher and the test production of the first individualized freeform lenses of Rodenstock. The freeform polisher meet not the requirements, and I learned that between theory and production is a "small" deep gap. On the other hand we installed two production locations for an timely start of this innovative, individualized product in 2000. In 2003 I changed in a staff position to asses non Rodenstock surfacing machineries.

In 2006 I moved to Wetzlar to work for Satisloh GmbH. I started working on an alloy free blocking system, but my expierences with the freeform polishing I change the project, to try to solve some problems with the first Satisloh softtool polisher.

2008 I took the responsibility for the BU Lab Support of optoVision GmbH. We installed the first brand processes for Rodenstock/optoVision franchise partners world wide, from South America over Europe and Russia to Asia.
In that time we started working on an IT expert system for troubleshooting in production.

I returned to Satisloh GmbH in 2011, to optimize the process performance of the DuoFlex/ToroFlex. For that we established a statical process analysis for customer production data and improved the in-house measurement equipment. The process developement for the first one tool polisher (MultiFlex) of Satisloh was my last mission for this company.

Mid 2017 I decided to look for new challenges as a freelancing engineer.
